MASTHEAD ANALYSIS





  • The Masthead, is 'Sans-serif', so it creates a modern, contemporary, texts which make the three letters bolder so it stands out and becomes more eye catching.
  • The juxtaposed colours are all contrasting which creates vibrancy so the ,Brand image', is more recognisable to the audience.
  • There is a drop shadow within each text to add depth so it creates this three dimensional effect which makes it more noticeable as its right in your face.
  • The simplicity of the brand image makes it recognisable and easily identifiable towards the audience.
  • The Masthead is located at the top left of the Magazine, and the reason is so it doesnt too much cause a distraction of the magazine but makes it clearly visible what magazine it is towards the public.

  • The Typography of the Masthead is, 'Serif', and the reason a Serif typography is best suitable for this magazine is because they feature the most popular, urban popstars that are currently famous within the media and public and as teenagers and young adults are their target audience the 'Serif' text makes Masthead more attractive and eye catching which youths wont find tedious.
  • The vivid, vibrant fill within the text with bold black block letters creates a brand image so its an instantly recognisable to the audience, and the vibrancy portrays the youthful pop culture.
  • The uniqueness or the tightly close, block letter's makes this magazine very identifiable and recognisable.
  • The Masthead tends to change the position of its locatioon so it doesnt follow a simple pattern depending on the style of the issue, debates whether the Masthead is located horizantally or at the top of the magazine at the side ect, and this enables the magazine to not seem repetitive and tedious but always have a clean, fresh brand new look each week.

  • The Typography of this masthead is 'Serif', the typography is not overly fancy, but they differed from a 'Sans-serif' font for uniqueness and so their brand image is recognisable.
  • The reason this Masthead is traditional and stuck to a proffessional, contrasting black and white theme rather than a vibrant, vivid colours is because this magazine uses A-list celebrities and a huge large image of the celebrity tends to cover the masthead, so they want to deteriotate the attention from the Masthead so the photo is the celebrity is completely dominant of the magazine.
  • The embedded, smaller contrasting,white font located at the bottom of the Masthead makes it have its own originality   and so the audience can immediately recognise the brand image,
  • The Masthead is thoroughly located, largely at the top centre of the magazine and some times it backshadowed and sometimes its dominant, debating on the issue and the reason is so its clearly recognisable what magazine it is but so the magazine doesn't become too packed and looked confusing.

  • The Typography of this Masthead is also 'serif', and the reason as to why a serif font is chosen, is because they want this font to be able to distinguish the font as a brand image so its automatically recognisable.
  • This masthead doesn't have a set specific,colour scheme as depending on the issue will determine what colour the masthead will be, its one colou fill and ranges from dark to vivid colour's, and the constant change of colours keeps the magazine looking new and fresh rather than tedious.
  • The lack off gradient fills and patterns, or drop shadoqws and bordfers, creates more of a professionalism the masthead has been keopt basic so it doesn't take attention from the lead story or the headlines.
  • The Masthead is located largely at the top centre of the Magazine throughly, and this is to make the Masthead prominent throughout this media produce so its clearly identifiable what magazine it is.
